Between 2009 and 2010, I was plagued by a host of health issues. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea which robbed me of proper sleep, early onset heart disease which frighten me, and other health issues which undermined my well-being. While conventional medicine could have provided me with temporary relief, I wanted a permanent solution that would bring me to a deeper state of relaxation and wellness, just like the wellness I was taught at a young age. This is when I began my journey of wellness.
I came to understand that health was not only about treating the symptoms of disease, but also about correcting the underlying imbalances to achieve a state of thriving harmony between mind, body and spirit. I relied on natural healing modalities, holistic health philosophies and the wisdom of traditional healing medicines that I was taught in my youth. I made diet and lifestyle changes, used natural remedies, herbal supplements, mind-body practices and stress management.
It was a slow but profound evolution: my symptoms eventually started to abate, the sleep apnea diminished, my heart felt healthier, my energy skyrocketed.
This experience taught me that my body knew how to heal and regenerate itself if given the right tools and support. Wellness is an integral part of us; it is not something we find outside of ourselves. It’s an internal experience that comes from being in tune with our natural rhythm, honouring our individual needs and tapping into our inner wisdom.
My own experience of how wellness from within can heal, as well as my work with clients as a Holistic Health Practitioner, have both shown me again and again the ability for individuals to heal and transform their lives. This is not a quick fix. It is not a silver bullet. It is a life-long cultivation.
If you’d like to get vibrantly healthier, I invite you to do so, right now. Take what your body is telling you seriously. Be willing to listen and consider. Provide it with nourishing food and exercise. Give it the natural elements, like sun and air and water, that it needs to thrive. Then, allow it to release any pain or discomfort that it has been carrying for your sake. This is how you come to bridge the gap between what you are and what you can be. It is not a leap. It is not a sudden quantum shift. It is more like a slow and steady return to the way you used to be when you were a child. From there, you can move forward into the vibrantly beautiful, healthy and fulfilled life you are meant to live. The one with the boundless energy, carefree spirit and timeless laughter that you are trying so desperately to recover.
